Do Not Expect People To Invest In You-
Mike Garza, Ph.D., M.B.A
Performance Coach
Mike has over 20 years of experience in organizational performance, excelling in coaching, business, and education. Remarkably, at the age of 32, Mike conquered a potentially debilitating eye disease, thanks to a miraculous cure by Dr. Boxer. Undeterred by adversity and tragedy, Mike successfully completed his doctoral coursework in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from GCU. Additionally, he holds an M.B.A. from UTPB with a Pedagogy and a Professional Responsibility Certification from the Texas Education Agency. In 2006, Mike devised and executed a cutting-edge, research-based learning model aimed at optimizing the performance and success of athletes, students, executives, and entrepreneurs.
Fortune 500
Mike has ten years of supply chain experience within UPS operations, which has enabled him to be part of a center ranked #3 for PAS performance out of 754 centers in the U.S. He has trained hundreds of leaders to produce tangible outcomes by modeling and explaining the processes of production, synchronization, capitalization, utilization, and execution to achieve results. Mike's ability to scale an operation revolves around building leadership capacity, density, and emotional capacity so that employees can increase production.
Entrepreneurship
In 2015, Mike was appointed Chief Executive Officer of a chamber of commerce. Over the course of two years, he managed to increase the organization's revenue by over 300%. Additionally, Mike worked as an International Business Development Trade Consultant for an economic development corporation for two years, where he played a crucial role in influencing several Mexican cities to sign a tri-city sister agreement with the U.S. This agreement was expected to be valued at over $1 billion by a multinational global package company. Mike also provided consultancy services to a venture capitalist firm, facilitating deals worth over $10 million for his clients. In 2018, he successfully secured a multi-million dollar manufacturing contract for GOLSCH Energy due to bilateral trade agreements. Mike also had the privilege of advising two CEOs in publishing their first book publications and being selected for the prestigious entrepreneur Tejas Leadership class of 2024.
Education
Mike's background in Fortune 500 and entrepreneurship inspired him to create an educational curriculum called the "Phoenix Challenge." The program has positively impacted numerous students at an at-risk facility, helping them turn their negative behaviors into positive outcomes. Mike presented the Phoenix Challenge at the Texas Association of Alternative Educators Leadership Conference, and in 2012, the program received a district award from ECISD.
In 2016, Mike facilitated an agreement between UTPB and UACH to develop an oil and gas curriculum. Additionally, he was tasked by the HR Director of ECISD in 2017 to recruit teachers from Mexico to address the shortage of teachers in the Permian Basin. In 2021, Mike was recognized as an Expert Art of Thinking educator by Third Future School administrators and was appointed as an administrator.
Moreover, Mike was a panel speaker for 300 HISD superintendents, executive directors, and administrators. He highlighted the significant achievement of a middle school that improved TEA's accountability ratings from an F to a B within one year. This achievement is of historical significance in Texas education. Under Mike's leadership, his team consistently achieved over 2.0 years of academic growth on NWEA map testing over three consecutive years. In 2024, his last team of 8th-grade educators achieved a record-breaking academic growth of 1.58 years in just three and a half months, surpassing the national average. Mike is experienced in producing NWEA and STAAR data.
In 2023, Texas Governor Greg Abbott and TEA Commissioner Mike Morath took over HISD, making it the first district in Texas history to be under state control. This decision was made due to the exemplary performance of the school's model, where Mike had been an administrator in one of the schools operating under this model.
Champion
Mike deeply understands the differences between being part of a championship team and a winning team. In 2002, he had the privilege of playing under the guidance of renowned championship coaches Steve Ramharter and Brian Reinke, at Midland College. During that time, the team achieved an impressive 45-12 record as district champions. Drawing on his experience, Mike incorporates valuable insights and forward-thinking strategies from research-based learning models. This ensures a holistic, social-emotional approach to support the success of athletes, executives, entrepreneurs, educators, and students.
